Arbitrage execution risk: Track executed quantities and the time an unmatched leg remains exposed.
A cross-venue discussion described one-sided fills and unhedged residual losses. The reviewed Reddit post was published June 9, 2026. Its author results were not independently reproduced, and the available comment tree remains incomplete. The exercise below is our original research proposal, not a replication of the post.
A displayed spread belongs to quotes; realized PnL belongs to executed quantities. A paired signal can become a directional position when only one leg fills. Record that interval explicitly instead of treating both intended orders as completed.
Arbitrage execution risk: exercise: reconcile unequal legs
Imagine placing paired orders to buy ten units on one venue and sell ten equivalent units on another. All ten buy units actually execute, but only six sell units execute. The account retains four units of unmatched exposure. If the residual then loses $2 per unit, it adds an $8 loss before fees. A favorable displayed spread on the six matched units does not cancel that residual automatically.
Store quote timestamps, available quantities, submission IDs, fill times and cancel states separately for each leg. Equivalent units require an explicit contract and settlement mapping; similar market titles do not establish equivalent payoffs. A failed acknowledgment is not proof that an order never reached a venue.
Attribute the outcome
Divide the ledger into matched spread proceeds, fees, residual price movement and financing. Report unhedged notional over time and the longest unresolved interval. Compare intended quantity with actual quantity at every state transition. Label any hypothetical hedge as a scenario with its own fill assumptions.
Tests should cover a second-leg rejection, a late fill after cancellation, duplicate events and restart while one leg is unresolved. A quote-age test should reject stale observations before calculating the candidate spread. Investor.gov explains limit-order price constraints; it does not validate prediction-market execution. This exercise is an offline research design, not authorization to enter another venue or automatically hedge a live account.
Put the setup on a watchlist first
Use the rules in this guide to evaluate a signal’s entry, stop, target, and reasoning before deciding what, if anything, to do.

Additional validation
Give every leg an independent state machine and preserve unresolved cancel status. A paired summary should never turn an uncertain order into a confirmed zero fill merely to balance the display. In the fixture, postpone the second acknowledgment until after the residual moves. Verify that the PnL ledger still shows the unmatched interval even when the pair eventually completes.
Evidence and workspace use
Primary reference: Investor.gov Types of Orders provides background for this experiment, not validation of the Reddit strategy. Treat invented numbers above as arithmetic fixtures. Preserve the dataset, configuration and timestamp conventions with the output so another researcher can inspect the same calculation.
Find the offline workflow through Tradewink Advisory Research. Choose a synthetic sample before importing offline JSON. Start in an advisory research workspace: save a small input fixture, write the expected result by hand, then compare the implemented output. Expand the dataset only after the fixture balances. Keep unresolved assumptions visible in the report and retain adverse outcomes. Synthetic research output does not establish live execution behavior. Frequently Asked Questions
When is a pair actually matched?
Only after equivalent actual executed quantities are reconciled; intended orders are insufficient.
How is residual loss attributed?
Track unmatched actual quantity through time and separate its price movement, fees and financing from matched spread proceeds.
Are similar contract titles enough?
No. Verify payoff and settlement equivalence before expressing the two quantities in matched units.
Were the Reddit results independently verified?
No. The post and rendered replies informed the question; returns, datasets and linked implementations were not reproduced.
Does this authorize live trading changes?
No. This is an educational advisory exercise. A research result is separate from deployment and broker execution.
